Byrnes bats sixth in opener vs. Rox

As he tries to work his way out of a slump at the plate, Eric Byrnes found himself hitting in the No. 6 spot in the lineup Tuesday for the first time this year. In fact, it's the first time Byrnes has hit that low in the order since 2006, when he hit sixth four times and seventh twice. D-backs manager Bob Melvin cautioned against reading too much into Byrnes' move down in the order.

Eric Byrnes was given another day off Friday to rest his sore right hamstring, admitting it seemed to feel better but not wanting to turn the time off into a routine.

Eric Byrnes made a statement by wearing a ski cap around the D-backs' clubhouse before Friday's game with the Padres. No, the air conditioning wasn't turned up too high. Byrnes was honoring the memory of a man that is close to his heart.
